December Reflections
As 2024 comes to a close, we at Diversity Richmond reflect on the power of IMPACT - a small word with a BIG meaning. It comes in many forms, both subtle and profound, and its beauty lies in the way it ripples through individual lives and broader communities.
Impact can be measured by a simple gesture, like offering a clothing voucher that provides immediate relief and dignity to someone in need; it can also be seen and felt through larger initiatives, such as hosting thousands at inclusive events or showcasing LGBTQ+ voices through art. This year our board, staff and pride planning committee worked hard to deepen our impact in this community.
Every day, we see the tangible results of your support and generosity in the work we do to fulfill our mission to be the hub of the LGBTQ+ community. When our community thrives, we all thrive, and your commitment to visibility, advocacy and inclusion ensures that no one is left behind.
Here are three powerful examples of the impact we’ve achieved together this year:
A Lifeline in Crisis: This year, we distributed nearly 1,000 clothing vouchers valued at over $150,000 to individuals and families in need. These vouchers provided essential support, offering dignity and relief during challenging times.
Building Community Connections: Our community events welcomed over 30,000 people into our building, fostering connection, celebration, and belonging. These events created moments of joy and solidarity, reminding everyone that they have a place here.
Showcasing LGBTQ+ Creativity: As the only LGBTQ+ art gallery in the South, we proudly showcased the work of 14 talented artists this year. Their art not only celebrated diverse perspectives but also inspired dialogue and understanding within our community.
