November Reflections
As we step into a new month and the season of giving, I’m reminded of how much our work at Diversity Richmond matters. Especially this week when we are individually and collectively feeling more challenged than ever before. In moments like these, when political landscapes shift that bring a higher level of uncertainty for marginalized communities, it’s essential that we hold fast to the hope and resilience that bring us together. The reminder that you BELONG here and WE belong to each other.
At Diversity Richmond, we see belonging as more than a feeling; it’s a commitment to each other. Every day, our center serves as a place where people from all walks of life come together, find support, and, most importantly, find a community that stands with them in both joy and hardship. This season, as we reflect on gratitude, we’re reminded of the strength we gain from being in this together. It’s in our shared connection that we find joy and strength.
It’s no secret that our community faces numerous challenges in the days ahead. The weight of these times has impacted each of us in different ways, and I know that many are feeling anxious and weary. But every day, our Diversity Richmond team continues to witness acts of strength and kindness within these walls that remind me why we’re here. I see people coming through our doors seeking a sense of safety, affirmation, and a place where they truly belong.
And just as importantly, I see each of you—our volunteers, donors, partners, supporters and friends—stepping up to ensure Diversity Richmond remains a refuge for everyone in our LGBTQ+ community.
Now more than ever, we need each other. And we need places like Diversity Richmond, where community members can find support, connection, and inspiration.
Our 25th anniversary has underscored how much progress we’ve made. As we were reminded Tuesday (election day) shows us we still have a long way to go. We can’t do it alone.
I ask you to stand with us. Your presence, your advocacy and your financial support is a powerful act of resistance and hope. It’s a message to our community that says: we are here, we are strong, and we will continue to thrive.
Together, we can be the light in these challenging times, a beacon that says, “This is community. You are safe here. You belong here.” Thank you for standing with us.
With gratitude and hope,
Rev. Dr. Lacette Cross
