Virginia Pride Launches Endless Summer of Pride
Pride Month is in full swing in the Richmond region.
Virginia Pride is hosting more than 20 events this June to celebrate and uplift Richmond’s incredible LGBTQ+ community. There’s something for everyone! Pride Month kicked off on May 31 with Mayor Stoney and city and community leaders raising a Progress Pride Flag at City Hall where it will fly for the month of June as a symbol of Richmond’s celebration of its LGBTQ+ community. The first weekend of June was a busy one for Richmond: Everywhere you looked, there was a celebration or event. People gathered at Starr Hill Brewery on Saturday, where the rooftop brewery donated $1 for every drink sold to Virginia Pride. Other Pride gatherings across Scott’s Addition, Manchester and Carytown also took place.
On Sunday, June 2, Virginia Pride in partnership with McShin Foundation, the Dandelion Hive and other recovery organizations hosted the first-ever Recovery Pridefest Diversity Richmond. More than 500 people attended and enjoyed free food, DJ, dancing, drag shows and dozens of community and craft vendors. It was a huge success!
Restaurants across the region are also involved. Thirty restaurants are participating in Dine Out For Pride on June 3-9 and donating a $1 from signature menu items to Diversity Richmond and OutRVA. This weekend’s events include Pride Night at the Diamond with the Flying Squirrels on Friday and Love on Tap on Saturday at Hardywood Park to celebrate the launch of the official Virgina Pride beer, Tropic Like its Hot! Come enjoy bands, vendors and drag performances!
The latest Pride Month events are a part of Virginia Pride’s Endless Summer of Pride series, which showcases LGBTQ+ events in the Richmond area culminating with VA Pridefest on September 14. June is just beginning but there’s still so much to do to show your pride and connect in community! Go to vapride.org for a full list of activities.
