Why Diversity Richmond?
Of the many questions we wrestle with in life, the why question is my personal favorite; when we pause long enough to consider why we invite ourselves and others into a space of inspiration, motivation, and reflection.
For many of us posing the why question can feel threatening but I believe when we are clear on our why we are able to show up in any space and conversation with confidence and willingness to come together in service to a greater cause.
Sssooooo…
Why does Diversity Richmond exist?
Why do we offer programs, connect with partners and celebrate people?
Why do we need an LGBTQ+ community hub in Greater Richmond?
I am certain that even as you are reading this, the answers to those questions are rolling easily through your mind and possibly off your tongue. I know this because I know you are a supporter of Diversity Richmond and the life-affirming work we do in our community.
As we celebrate 25 years of existence, in the month of Give Out Day, I wanted to share my 3 answers to why…
We exist to create a safe-brave space where every member can embrace their true selves without fear or hesitation.
We exist to boldly assert our right to love, live, and thrive on our own terms.
We exist to foster a profound sense of belonging in a world where prejudice and inequality still linger.
Our community hub stands as a beacon of acceptance, understanding, and empowerment. Here, you are not just accepted; you are celebrated for who you are. Whether you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or any other identity under the rainbow, you are an integral part of our network.
We’re a place where friendships are forged, support is freely given, and love knows no bounds. Together, through our many and varied intersecting identities, we create a tapestry of belonging that weaves us all into its connected threads.
This year we are participating in Give Out Day 2024. With your support we are aiming to raise $25,000 to resource and build a support hub for our emergency financial assistance fund. This month as you consider your why for staying connected to and supporting Diversity Richmond I invite you to give and even consider setting up a fundraiser to help us reach our goal.
