    He She Ze and We is a confidential peer-led support group for parents, caregivers, and adult family members who support transgender and gender-diverse individuals of all ages. He She Ze and We holds weekly parent/caregiver support groups, monthly family playgroups, and many other opportunities for the community to connect with other families.

    James River Transgender Society is a group dedicated to serving those persons undertaking gender transition. JRT offers monthly support group meetings, mentoring, and resources for anyone who is gender variant.     Richmond LGBT Meet-up Group is a great way to meet other local LGBT community members in various social settings. The goal is to facilitate discussions and interactions with like-minded individuals about anything of interest (coming out, dating, politics, careers, etc.) while having fun at the same time. GLSEN works with educators, policy makers, community leaders, and students on the urgent need to address anti-LGBT behavior and bias in schools.

    Human Rights Campaign (HRC) VA is part of America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve LGBT equality. The local HRC strives for LGBT equality in VA alongside state and local groups and lawmakers.

    People of Faith for Equality in VA (POFEV)

    People of Faith for Equality in VA (POFEV) is an interfaith network of people who all share a deep commitment to individual faith traditions, social justice, and equal rights for VA’s LGBT community. POFEV organizes congregations, advocates for change, offers educational and devotional resources, sponsors workshops and forums, and hosts interfaith services.

    Safe Harbor provides a 24 hour helpline, children/youth services, community education and training, counseling, emergency shelter, court advocacy, and hospital accompaniment for anyone who has experiences domestic or sexual violence. Services are provided regardless of race, gender, age, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity, or geographic location. All services are free for those seeking help.

    Reporting a Hate Crime

    Reporting a Hate Crime: If you or someone you know has been the victim of a hate crime based on sexual orientation or gender identity, or if you have direct knowledge of a hate crime, you can contact your local FBI office. The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 gives the FBI authority to investigate violent hate crimes, including violence directed at the LGBT community.

    HEALTH BRIGADE provides free and/or affordable care to low-income and uninsured persons throughout the Richmond area.
