Reducing Barriers to Serving Transgender Clients Experiencing Homelessness

The transgender community is disproportionately affected by homelessness. 1 in 5 transgender individuals have experienced homelessness and 20-40% of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ. Often homelessness for a transgender person is a result of family rejection, discrimination, violence, and other forms of trauma. Unfortunately, service providers that work with this population often do not have the tools to appropriately serve transgender persons. This training will provide service providers with an overview of the transgender community, information about the risk and barriers for transgender persons accessing homeless service agencies, and tangible steps to create more inclusive services to meet their needs.
